healthy smoothie recipes

Healthy smoothie recipes are a great resource to have when you don't have time to make a meal. According to Brendan Brazier, a professional triathlete and founder of the Vega diet; smoothies are an ideal way for your body to receive nutrients as there is very little digestion needed and they are packed with fluid so they hydrate you as well.

My all time favorite ingredients (Organic if possible)to use are:

  • Organic Vanilla Hemp Protein Powder
  • Organic vanilla almond milk
  • low-fat coconut milk
  • Bananas
  • strawberries
  • Peanut butter (non-hydrogenated)
  • Silken tofu
  • Cantaloupe
  • Blueberries
  • Whey protein (use sparingly)
  • Avocado, yes really!
  • Carob powder
  • Tahini (sesame butter)
  • Papaya
  • Coconut milk
  • Pineapple
  • Coconut (soak first)
  • Dates (soak first)
  • Tender bib lettuce, yep!
  • Baby Spinach
  • Apple juice
  • Celery juice
  • Carrot juice
  • Cucumber juice
  • ICE
  • Vanilla

Now to make some sense of all of those ingredients.

Use a good quality drink blender, and watch the fluidity of the mix. Add in some water if it looks too thick. Mix until well blended. Using a juicer extracts the juice of carrot, celery and cucumber without the pulp. Commercially prepared carrot juice is available but it is best fresh and made from organic carrots that are scrubbed and not peeled.

You can pickup an inexpensive model of a juicer for around $25 and it does the job just fine.
