Sustainability

Sustainability is the measure by which we attempt to reduce the effects of our lives on the planet.

Why should we care? Well, let's see: Our children's future on Earth, our dwindling natural resources, the high cost of powering our cities and it's devastating effects on the environment, not to mention looming landfills that toxify the environment.

The less we contribute in every little way, makes a cumulative effect that has good ripples. Ripples that spread awareness and like mindedness. Wasteful practices that lead to more landfill rubbish is slowly giving way to conservation, recycling and reducing consumption.

According to Wikipedia, a lifestyle based on these beliefs includes attempts to reduce an individual's or society's use of the Earth's natural resource.

Practitioners of conscious living often attempt to reduce their carbon footprint by altering methods of transportation, energy consumption and diet.[1] Proponents aim to conduct their lives in manners that are consistent with sustainability, in natural balance and respectful of humanity's symbiotic relationship with the Earth's natural ecology and cycles.[2] The practice and general philosophy of ecological living is highly interrelated with the overall principles of eco-conscious development.

Carbon footprint is a catchy newsworthy phrase, basically it is a measure of how much carbon your lifestyle emits. How much is produced from travel, utilization of resources (this is why local is best), an how much we contribute in the means of utilities (shower, lights etc).

Our dream home is one that is off the grid. Completely self sufficient via solar and wind power, a greenhouse to grow food, gray water recycling system and eco friendly building products.
