Tittibasana, firefly, arm balance

The tittibasana or firefly posture is a fairly advanced arm balancing challenge. The trick here is to finesse your body into the basic shape then tweak it to just the right point. There is no perfect posture for anyone and it will look slightly unique for all due to individual differences in body composition.

Begin in a yoga squat or malasana posture. Get used to the pressure on the knees and adjust as needed. Lift the hips and place the hands on the ground behind you, just the fingers (facing forward) and gently place your weight back so as you roll the hips back, your hands go flat to the ground.

The hands are firmly on the ground, your shoulders are back behind the knees and your hamstrings are really cozy next to the shoulder blades. Begin to lift one toe, then another is you are comfortable.

Take off, let your firefly fly and lift those legs is you can. Don;t overstay your limit here, always back down before you have to.

For an extra challenge, try crossing the legs and reaching your head down to your toes.
