Types of yoga: There are six sub-sets of yoga. Imagine a wheel with six sections, on each section is Hatha, the yoga of force: the bodily movements and breath Karma, the yoga of selfless service: think Mother Theresa Raja, the yoga of meditation: think of The Buddha Mantra, the yoga of words: think Hare Krishnas Jana, the yoga of intellect: think academia and research Bahkti, the yoga of devotion Most of the world understands yoga to be Hatha based, as it is the most commonly found form. The types of Hatha yoga are as varied as can be imagined, and classes are teacher dependent. Meaning that each teacher imbues their classes with their life experiences and knowledge. Therefore we have a cornucopia of exciting styles to choose from. The most common are: Ashtanga Vinyasa,

developed by John Friend is a response to the need for greater alignment and attentiveness during practices. Jamie and Justin Allison offer three day Anusara workshops that focused on hip openers, arm balances and inversions. It was very educational and difficult! The precise focus on alignment allowed one to learn how to "tweak" postures to extract the deepest sensation possible. So much of what we pass up in a posture is actually critical information regarding the alignment and intensity of the posture.
